Doing It Because I Can So my friend Kate and I have decided that we are going to spend the next 150 days training to walk a marathon and a half in two days through NYC while fundraising for breast cancer. You probably think it's crazy, but here's why I'm doing it... You can make a donation to my fundraising campaign right here on the website by clicking on the pink "Donate Now" button. If you prefer to write a check, just contact me and I'll send you the information and form. |

four months to go...
it's been far too long since my last post. life has been just so crazy lately, but crazy in a good way.
memorial day weekend was quite nice. i attempted to do a half marathon that saturday to train for my walk in the fall. i had to stop because it became quite cold. it was in the 80s when i started walking that morning, but by the time i got back to my car, it was down to 63 degrees. so maybe it wasn't so cold, but since i was in sophies and a tank top and there was no longer any sun out, i decided that goose bumps meant i should call it for the day. even though i didn't do as much as i had planned that morning, i felt really good because i wasn't tired from walking, just not dressed properly.
kate and i did some more training on june 1 and did quite nice. we were able to do 5 miles in an hour through downtown ridgefield. we were happy with this and are hoping we can keep that pace up for a good portion of our walk in october.
then this past weekend i went for an amazing sunrise hike to the top of the foothill at camp deerpark where i was on a retreat with the youth group i work with. not only was it a great way to wake up on sunday, but it was a really great way to bond with one of our seniors and another one of the core members.

beginning it all
Getting ready for this walk is not just as easy as signing up and registering and sending out an e-mail blast to almsot everyone I know to ask for donations. But this is going to require lots of training too. Last week Kate and I set out on a 6 mile walk through downtown Main Street and we're set to do it again tonight. While we seem to have the 6 miles down, the real question is how far could we go?? This weekend I'm hoping to head out on Saturday and attempt at least 10 miles, and depending on how it goes maybe up it to 13 -- I figure knowing if I'd make it through Sunday's part will be a good boost. So if any of you know of any trails or areas nearby that would be a fun place for me to walk, please let me know.
And if any of you are interested in walking with us, please let me know and you can sign up right here online as a member of Got Soup?
