    What is a CSV file?

"CSV" stands for "Comma Separated Values". A CSV file is one in which each line contains one record, and the values within each record are separated from each other with commas. Usually, the name of the file ends with ".csv", but that is not required.

What does the generic address book CSV file look like?

In the generic address book that you upload, each line (or record) contains the name and e-mail address information for one person. The comma-separated values in each line are the person's:

In addition, the first line of the file is a header line that specifies the names of each column of values. Here's is an example of what such a file looks like:

       First,Last,Email
       Alex,Oliver,alexoliver2001@yahoo.com

You can download this example CSV file and replace the example record with the names and addresses that you want to upload. Just be careful to keep the first line of data in the file because it is necessary for the import processing. When you are finished, save the file on your computer so that you can upload it from the form on your web browser.

How do I edit a generic address book CSV file?

That depends on your computer's operating system and the programs that are available on it. A CSV file may be edited with any editor that creates "plain text" files (these sometimes are named with a ".txt" ending). There are also other programs, such as Microsoft Excel, that can edit the tabular structure (rows and columns) of CSV files in a specialized presentation.

  3. On the upload form in your web browser, specify the name of your file. Enter the file path and name of the file that you created, or click the Browse button to find the file on your computer.

  4. Click the Upload Now button and the CSV file will be imported into your address book with all of the listed contacts in it.
